AKEL Stands by Cypriot Olympians

The Cyprus Olympians Association held a meeting with the General Secretary of AKEL, Mr. Stefanos Stefanou, on 1 July 2026, as part of its ongoing dialogue with institutional stakeholders.

Representing the Cyprus Olympians Association were President Mr. Costas Papacostas, OLY, Vice President Dr Andros Karapatakis, OLY, and General Secretary Mr. Panicos Evripidou, OLY.

During the meeting, the Association’s delegation presented the work, activities and objectives of the Cyprus Olympians Association, as well as its initiatives at both local and international level and its future programmes. The delegation also presented the Association’s publications, which document Cyprus’ history at the Olympic Games and the achievements of the Cypriot athletes who have represented the country at the Games.

Mr. Stefanou thanked the delegation of the Cyprus Olympians Association and stated that Cypriot Olympians are among the strongest pillars of sport in Cyprus, from the country’s first participation in the Olympic Games in Moscow and Lake Placid in 1980 through to the present day. He further stated that he would remain a steadfast supporter of the Cypriot Olympians, both personally and on behalf of AKEL.

The Cyprus Olympians Association continues its dialogue with all institutional stakeholders, with the aim of supporting and strengthening Cypriot Olympians.
