Cyprus at the Olympic Games

84+42 Years

By: Petros Hadjichristodoulou
Issued: November 2022

With the book “Cyprus at the Olympic Games – 84+42 Years”, K.E.S.O.A. pays tribute to Cyprus’ presence at the Olympic Games.

Over 42 years (1980–2022) of independent Olympic participation, Cyprus has taken part in 23 editions of the Games (11 Summer and 12 Winter), represented by 130 Olympians (40 women and 90 men). The portraits of all these athletes are presented in the book.

The work also honours 84 years (1896–1980) of Olympic history in which Cypriot athletes, as part of the wider Hellenic sporting community, represented Greece on the world’s greatest sporting stage.

The Cyprus Olympians – The Tradition Continues

By: Kyriakos D. Papadopoulos
First Edition Issued: 2024

Flag bearers of the Cypriot Olympic team, athletes who made history, coaches who guided Olympians, sports journalists who narrated unforgettable Olympic moments, and officials who served Cypriot sport and Olympism all share their experiences with the author.

With honesty and an open heart, each interview is accompanied by a short narrative from the personal life of the interviewee, turning the book into an authentic record of the human side of Cypriot athletes.

The symbols and values of the Olympic Games are deeply reflected in every story, while the historical moments shared by the contributors form an important part of Cyprus’ sporting memory.

The book highlights the essential relationship between the athlete, the state, and society.

It underlines that the athlete is both a value and a symbol – and that supporting them is a responsibility not only of the state and its institutions, but also of the people themselves.

The Cyprus Olympians – The Tradition Continues, Volume II

By: Kyriakos D. Papadopoulos
First Edition Issued: 2024

Following the same spirit as the first volume, Volume II focuses on completing and enriching the overall picture, filling gaps that could not be covered in the original edition. There is so much that can be included in a book about sport that even the athletes themselves could not have imagined it.

In the previous volume, the “Olympic Narrative” introduced a fresh approach to sports writing, adding literary colour and emotional depth through poems that captured the feelings of athletes as eyewitnesses to their own journey.

In this second volume, interviews and engaging short stories maintain the same character, proving to be an excellent way to complete the image of the athlete.

The book is further enriched with texts of diverse and particularly interesting styles that illuminate different aspects of the careers of Cypriot athletes. With concise yet meaningful writing, these stories are presented in a clear and enjoyable way, offering readers both knowledge and genuine reading pleasure.
